Teyana Taylor:
Every single day that you see any woman, no matter who she is, you are watching a visionary. You’re watching a walking visionary, a walking vision board, because us women are the blueprint. Being honored with the Billboard Women in Music Visionary Award is truly an honor. The last 20 years of my life have not only been about extending my vision to myself but also extending my vision to others and other creatives, helping them bring their visions to life. I’ve always had the vision since I was younger. I would walk up to different dance groups and say, “This should be like this,” or walk up to a mannequin and say, “Hmm, the mannequin…” I’ve literally always had eyes that saw beyond. To look back at younger me and see what I’m doing now has been really amazing. I’ve been able to be a vision not just for myself but for others, especially in a time where you don’t get the biggest budgets for things. I think it’s really dope that I can step in and help other creatives get their vision out there, bring their vision to life, and also elevate their vision. Every single creative has their own vision, but when you step into a world of collaboration, it’s a skill to trust. It’s a skill to collaborate in a way where you feel that trust and know, “Okay, I’m safe with you.” It feels really amazing that I’ve been able to be a safety net for the creatives I work with. It feels good because I’m used to being on the other end of it, pouring into everyone. It feels great to be seen, acknowledged, poured into, and celebrated.
Keep watching for more!
