The Recording Academy sent an email to voting members on Wednesday (Sept. 2) reminding them of its strict rules about Grammy campaigning. Here’s the text of that email, in full:
“Welcome to the 69th Grammy Awards Season.
As the season gets underway, we want to ensure all members are familiar with the rules and guidelines for For Your Consideration (FYC) communications and more broadly the Academy’s Voting Integrity and Vote Solicitation Guidelines.
While FYC-type events, screenings, advertisements, and formal communications are not prohibited outside of the Recording Academy, certain rules and guidelines must be adhered to. Please familiarize yourself with our full FYC policy.
Please also familiarize yourself with Rule Nine: Voting Integrity and Vote Solicitation Guidelines from the Academy’s rulebook, which among other things reflects the Voter Code of Conduct requirement that judging be based solely on the voter’s analysis of merit.
Here are some important highlights to ensure compliance with the FYC policy:
1. FYC communications cannot include category/field/balloting identifiers or proprietary entry information. Example: category numbers or entry IDs may not be referenced.
2. FYC communications must include an opt-out option.
3. FYC communications cannot include Recording Academy trademarks, logos, gramophone imagery, or Grammy promotional assets. For example, this means that FYC communications must not include any version of the gramophone logo, the Grammy Award statuette, or promotional assets related to the Grammy Awards.
4. FYC communications cannot include chart numbers, streams, sales figures, or RIAA awards.
5. FYC events may not include gifts, meals, alcohol, or hospitality that could imply vote consideration.”
The Academy also included this reminder: “Please be advised that the Recording Academy does not release member contact information. Be cautious of vendors claiming access to official member lists.”
